"Teaching dogs to live with people"

Expanded 5 Week Board & Train Program

The 5 Week Board & Train Program has been tweaked & enhanced to make our most effective program even better.  Includes unlimited follow-up visits for the life of the dog.

The 2 Week Board & Train Program - does NOT include unlimited follow-up visits for the life of the dog.

Brand new!!!!!  2 Week Obedience Camp.  Dogs will stay onsite M-F and go home week-ends.  Owner's will come in on Fridays for a group lesson before taking their dog home and bring the dog back the following Monday.  Option to add additional obedience camp weeks at the end of 2 weeks.

The Academy of Canine Behavior has offered a month long Board and Train program since the beginning of our existence. Through those years the program has endured many changes making it the most progressive and successful programs available. And now, we feel, it’s time for a few more.

• All dogs will be fed by their Primary Care trainer for the first three days the trainer is here, improving trainer knowledge of dog’s health during initial intake period. Especially important if your dog is a first time boarder.
PLAY romps in one of our 2 classrooms or outside around the grounds. This will happen at least 3 times a week.
Socialization/Manners Program Each dog will be placed in a different area  on a leash tied to the wall and will get work on having manners throughout the day and/or learning to cope with the new environment. This happens 3 times a week in addition to the training.
Day Outing Every dog in Board and Train will now go on at least one day outing with the trainers. The exact adventure will be discussed with the trainer on the initial phone call to see what activities are suitable to your lifestyle. I.E. Day Hike, Trip to Downtown Kirkland coffee shops, Half day spent in home environment, etc.
Dog to Dog Behavioral Evaluation: The chance for your dog to meet our pack of dogs, most of which are owned by the training staff. Will include what games they indulge in, who took to playing with them and who didn’t.  Good information for people that aren’t sure how their dogs are with other dogs or just good ol’ fun for your dog. This will happen twice during the program, once in the first 2 weeks and once in the second two weeks.  (Dogs here for Dog Aggression may not be able to partake in this activity.)

We feel these changes are necessary for improving the trainer/dog relationship, and also improving the trainers overall knowledge of your dogs physical and mental state. In addition to these changes, the program will still include the following:

• Guarantee dogs will UNDERSTAND concept of all commands on Word List.  Also that they can perform them on leash with owner.
• At least 3 visits for you and your family to learn the concepts and training that your dog has learned here during the program. Also to finish the program, we require one follow up visit where the owner brings the dog back in to discuss training issues.
• UNLIMITED follow up visits for the life of your dog. Once you leave we don’t just stop helping you as we know dogs go through many changes in their life.
• Assigned PRIMARY CARE trainer to watch over your dog’s physical well
being during the stay here and keeping you in contact with that information.
• Outings to either the store or park while here. Helping to generalize that not
only on our property, but everywhere the dogs must work.
• All dogs will work with multiple trainers while here to continue to understand
the concept that they listen to anybody, not just their Primary Care trainer.

An effective program with a documented 99.5% success ratio!
Does your dog...

  • Destroy things he's not suppose to?
  • Act possessive of some thing or place?
  • Act aggressive towards other dogs or people?
  • Bark when it's not appropriate?
  • Have problems with house training?
  • In general, have bad manners?

For many owners, it is the most practical way for a dog to receive the training it needs - especially if:
  • You are short on time
  • You are going on vacation
  • If the problem you are having with your dog would benefit from professional intervention.

This is our most intensive, most effective program.  With this service, your dog stays with us at our facility.  We make an initial assessment and develop a tailored training program for your dog.  Our staff of trainers work with your dog using positive reinforcement based on a dog's natural behavior tendencies.  (Every dog is treated in a non-violent manner. We DO NOT punish a dog for errant behavior.)  Your dog is trained in all types of practical situations, inside and outside.  The dog is worked around people, other dogs and in many different environments.

Regular visits are scheduled for you and your family to come in and learn to work under our supervision.  These guided training sessions give you an opportunity to learn more about canine behavior.  We teach you the same methods we use in training your dog.  Working with you ensures that the new, positive behavior, will transfer to your environment.  The 5 week program includes unlimited follow-up visits for the life of the dog.

There is a 2 Week Board and Train option as well.  The dog stays with us at our facility for the entire 2 weeks.  The family comes in at the end of the 2 weeks to spend an hour with a trainer learning what the dog has learned and how to take the training home.  There are no more visits.  If you decide at a later date you need help you can schedule a private lesson.
